An open source project raises serving speed for a major open AI model by up to 2.8 times

· L5 Tooling and infrastructure · 2.2x to 2.8x throughput versus vLLM's own prior release · Confirmed

Engineers working on vLLM, an open source system for running AI models, said on 13 September that they raised serving throughput for Moonshot AI's Kimi K3, an open-weight model, by 2.2 to 2.8 times against vLLM's own previous release, with latency down 56 to 60 percent over the same comparison. The work was done by engineers from Red Hat, Huawei, Inferact and Nvidia and published on vLLM's engineering blog. Several authors work at companies with a commercial stake in the hardware or software involved, so this desk treats the figure as a real but self-measured result rather than an audited one. For anyone running large open models on their own hardware instead of paying a lab by the token, a gain like this means more users served on the same machines.

China's Z.ai is reported to raise $5 billion in Hong Kong, its second large raise since July

· Band Money · about $5bn reported · Reported

Z.ai, a major Chinese AI company formerly known as Zhipu, is reported to have raised about 5 billion dollars through a Hong Kong stock exchange filing, made up of roughly 2 billion dollars from placing new shares at a 10 percent discount and about 3 billion dollars of zero-coupon convertible bonds due in September 2027. A Hong Kong outlet reported these figures from the exchange filing, which we could not open directly, so this runs as Reported rather than Confirmed. The same report says Z.ai listed in Hong Kong in January and raised about 4 billion dollars in a follow-on share sale in July. It is evidence that Chinese AI labs are increasingly raising money on public markets in Hong Kong rather than only from private investors. Nothing changes outside China's AI industry today; this is a financing event, not a product.
